Hypertension is a condition in which a person's blood pressure is above 120 mmHg for systolic and 80 mmHg for diastolic. Diet is one way to reduce hypertension in the elderly. But sometimes the elderly are not obedient to the hypertension diet, this is due to lack of knowledge from the elderly themselves. This study aims to identify the relationship between knowledge and adherence to a hypertension diet in the elderly with hypertension in Penjalin Wakul Hamlet.
The research design used was descriptive correlational with a cross sectional approach to 35 respondents with hypertension. Sampling was done by total sampling.
The results showed that 17 people (48.6%) had good knowledge, most of them knew about the definition of hypertension, causes of hypertension, signs and symptoms of hypertension, complications of hypertension, prevention of hypertension, and hypertension diet. This is caused by several factors, namely education. Most of the respondents have a high school education level of 17 people (48.6%) so that the higher a person's education level the more he or she has good knowledge. The second factor is the age where the respondent has an age of 60-70 years (65.7%) so that the older a person is the wiser, the more information he finds and the more things he does so as to increase his knowledge, especially exposure to information from informal education from health workers regarding the disease. As for other factors, namely the work of some respondents, it is known that 27 people (77.1%) work so that the better the job, the easier it is for them to access or receive information about hypertension.
