Lack of knowledge of a person in carrying out Personal Hygiene can be at risk for the growth of microbes resulting in vaginal odor and vaginal discharge, this causes various reproductive organ diseases. One way to increase knowledge is by providing health education. This study aimed to determine the effect of audio-visual media health education on the knowledge of adolescent girls about personal hygiene during menstruation. The design of this study used a one group pretest-post test design. The population in this study was female students in grade 7 of SMP 3 Silo, Jember Regency, as many as 59 students. The sampling technique of this study was simple random sampling. The study sample size was 54 people. The study instrument used the Extension Program Unit, and a questionnaire. Data analysis used Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results of this study indicated that almost all respondents had sufficient knowledge before being given health education, as many as 45 people (83.3%), and almost all respondents had good knowledge after being given health education, as many as 43 people (79.6%). Wilcoxon test results suggested that p value = 0.000 so that there was an effect of audio-visual media health education on increasing knowledge about personal hygiene during menstruation. Audio-visual aids are capable of displaying images, writing, animations that move and are accompanied by sound, helping to give the first concept or the right impression, encouraging interest, saving time, making memories of lessons longer and increasing intellectual knowledge.en_US
