Abstract
Kangaroo mother care is an alternative to reduce infant mortality due to hypothermia. The success of KMC is a reference for the success of caring for low birth weight babies at home. Health education about KMC is one of the efforts to shape mothers' knowledge and attitudes towards the implementation of KMC. A good mother's attitude will definitely affect the implementation of Kangaroo Mother Care. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of health education on KMC on maternal attitudes in the Perinatology of Bangil Hospital. The design of this research is pre-experimental, pretest and posttest design. The study population was all mothers with LBW in the perinatology of Bangil Hospital as many as 29 mothers, the sampling technique used was conservative sampling with a total sampling of 18 respondents according to the predetermined inclusion exclusion criteria. Data were collected by questionnaire. The results of the univariate analysis showed that before health education most of the categories were adequate (16), after health education, most of them increased in the good category (17). The results of the Wilcoxon test before and after health education on KMC obtained p = 0.001 meaning that there was an effect of health education on KMC on maternal attitudes. The level of education and age affect the mother's ability to absorb the information provided through health education. The right method in health education is able to increase knowledge as a factor that influences the formation of good attitudes.
