Abstract
Schizophrenia occurs in many communities that require therapy for a long
time. The success of therapy is influenced by the patient's adherence to the
treatment of schizophrenia to improve the quality of life, if the treatment is not
carried out properly, the quality of life of the sufferer will decrease. People with
schizophrenia have a very poor quality of life compared to people in general, as
well as with other physical illnesses. This study aimed to determine the
relationship between medication adherence and quality of life of schizophrenic
patients. This research design used correlation analytic with cross sectional
approach. The population in this study was all schizophrenic patients at the Al
Hafizh Sidoarjo Mental Rehabilitation Foundation in July 2021 with a total of 20
people. The sampling technique of this research was total sampling. The sample in
this study was as many as 20 people. The research instrument used the Medication
Morisky Adherence Scale-8 questionnaire and Schizophrenia Quality Of Life
Scales. Data analysis used Spearman Rho test. The results suggested that most of
the respondents had high compliance in taking medication, as many as 13 people
(65%), and most of the respondents had a good quality of life, as many as 15
people (75%). The results of the Spearman Rho test suggested that p-value =
0.000 and a correlation coefficient of 0.707 so that there was a strong relationship
between medication adherence and quality of life of schizophrenic patients at the
Al Hafizh Sidoarjo Mental Rehabilitation Foundation, where the higher the
adherence to taking medication, the better the quality of life of schizophrenic
patients. Compliance of patients with schizophrenia in taking medication can
certainly prevent recurrence in patients and also improve the patient's own quality
of life.
