dc.description.abstract | As the elderly get older they will experience a decline in their health and
physical abilities, the elderly will slowly withdraw from the surrounding community
relations so that it can cause their social interaction to decrease. Physical and
psychological decline in the elderly can affect mobility and social contact, changes in
social values that lead to community structure being individualistic will cause the
elderly to get less attention so that they are often excluded from community life, this
can cause the elderly to feel lonely. The purpose of this study was to determine the
relationship of social interaction with the level of loneliness in the elderly in RW X
Manukan Kulon Urban Village, Tandes District, Surabaya city. Research design using
cross sectional. The population in this study were the elderly in RW X Manukan Kulon
Urban Village, Tandes District, Surabaya City, amounting to 56 respondents and a total
sample of 30 respondents using purposive sampling and using the Spearman Rho test.
The research instrument used a questionnaire. The test results using SPSS 16.0
statistical test of spearman rho correlation obtained p = 0.029 <0.05, which means that
there is a very strong and unidirectional significant relationship between social
interaction and the level of loneliness in the elderly in RW X, manukan kulon subdistrict,
tandes district, Surabaya. The results showed that the higher the social
interaction, the lower the level of loneliness in the elderly. This is influenced by the
lack of communication among their families, neighbors and peers in the environment,
the abandonment of their spouse, and other factors such as living alone at home or lack
of participating in other activities or activities in the community. | en_US |
