HUBUNGAN DUKUNGAN SOSIAL DENGAN DEPRESI PADA PASIEN KANKER SERVIKS YANG MENJALANI KEMOTERAPI DI YAYASAN KANKER INDONESIA (YKI) SURABAYA
Abstract
Cervical cancer is one of the highest causes of death in Indonesia. Chemotherapy is done to extend the life expectancy of cervical cancer patients, but it causes many side effects that make depression. Social support is needed by cervical cancer patients to reduce depression. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship of social support with depression in cervical cancer patients. The design of this research is correlation analytic with cross sectional approach. The study population was all cervical cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy at the Indonesian Cancer Foundation (ICF) Surabaya in June 2020, amounting to 36 people. The sampling technique uses total sampling, so the sample is 36 people. This research was conducted in June 2020. The instrument used a social support questionnaire and The Burns Depression Checklist. The results of this study indicate that the majority of respondents who get very high social support support experience unhappy (60%), half of the respondents who get high social support support experience unhappy (50%), the majority of respondents who get social support support moderate depression (66.7%), and all respondents who received low social support support experienced moderate depression (100%). The higher the support, the lower the degree of depression, and conversely the lower the support, the higher the degree of depression. Social support makes it easy for sufferers to do their activities, feel loved and can share burdens, expressing feelings openly can help in dealing with problems that are happening so as to reduce depression.
