dc.description.abstractDiabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases with characteristic hyperglycemia that occurs due to abnormalities of insulin secretion, insulin work or both.The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Indonesia increases from year to year.According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) predicts an increase in the number of people with diabetes mellitus in Indonesia from 9.1 million in 2014 to 14.1 million in 2035.It is caused by several factors, one of which is obesity, which is a major risk factor in the metabolic syndrome.The purpose of this research is to identify the risk factor of the incidence of obesity in patients with diabetes mellitus at Citra Medika Sidoarjo hospital.The design of this research is descriptive research.The number of respondents as many as 110 people using sampling technique is total sampling.Data collection using questionnaire sheets and measuring body mass index (BMI).Data analysis techniques using the Median descriptive analysis.The results of this study showed that most respondents had obese body mass index I as much as 71 people (64,5%), obesity II as much as 21 people (19.1%) And at a risk of 18 people (16.4%).Based on the test results of the descriptive analysis using SPSS obtained median value (Me) of 27.0 it shows that the middle value of the respondent's BMI is 27.0 kg/m2.Incidence of obesity is caused by several factors that are diet/diets excessive and unhealthy (high in glucose) because of the food that is liked and often consumed by respondents who are many contain sugar and respondents physical activity is mild.Thesmall physical activity of the respondent includes watching television, walking, cooking and ironing because the respondents are mostly as housewives.This affects the activity of adrenergic receptors of β3 (RAβ3) in the body,thus causing lipid retention in fat cells and resulting in excessive fat accumulation in the body so that there is an increase in body weight. Therefore, the role of nurses as educators is expected to provide counseling on the four pillars of diabetes mellitus control program so that diabetes mellitus sufferers can live longer and improve the quality of life.en_US
