Abstract
Problems experienced by leprosy sufferers include interference with nerve
function. As a result of the existence of peripheral nerve disorders in people with leprosy,
will lead to problems including mutilation absorbs, blindness, stiffness in the fingers, dry
and cracked skin, infections. Disabilities experienced by leprosy sufferers can get worse
due to lack of independence in terms of caring for themselves and injuries. This disease
requires continuous and complete treatment until self-care independence can be
achieved. Lack of management and accuracy of strategy by agencies and nurses causes
health education and education to patients also getting narrower, so nurses need to make
appropriate follow-up plans for patients. This study aims to analyze the effect of
providing education with demonstration methods on the self-care of leprosy patients with
self-care deficits. The research design used is quantitative research with a Preexperimental
design using the One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design approach. The
population in this study was all leprosy inpatients in the jasmine room, the population on
May 14 to June 9 2020 was 47. Samples were taken by nonprobability sampling
technique with consecutive sampling. Samples were taken from the inclusion criteria
with a total of 30. The independent variable in this study Providing education with
demonstration methods and the dependent variable is self-care independence. Self-care
independence is measured through the instrument namely self-care questionnaire. The
data is tested using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Wilcoxon test analysis results show
the value of p value 0,000 <alpha (0.05) then H0 is rejected, which means there is an
influence of providing education with demonstration methods on the self-care
independence of leprosy patients with self care deficits. By providing education with the
demonstration method there is an influence on the level of self-care independence in
leprosy patients. This is due to changes in the behavior of leprosy patients who
experience less independence to good independence after being given an intervention
that is providing education with a demonstration method.
