The independence of the elderly increases until the age of 40-50 years and begins to decline after the age of 50 years, decreasing sharply after the age of 60 years. The elderly experience aging, the aging process tends to reduce the degree of independence in the elderly, therefore family support is needed. Decreased body functions can also cause the elderly to experience a decrease in independence in carrying out AKS. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between family support and independence of the elderly in daily activities. The design of this study used correlational analysis using a cross sectional approach. The population in the study amounted to 48 people, the sampling technique used nonprobability purposive sampling. The number of samples in this study were 39 people. The research instrument used a family support questionnaire with a Likert scale according to (Nursalam, 2013) and an independence questionnaire with the Barthel index. The results showed that almost half of the elderly received adequate family support with mild dependence, a total of 21 respondents (53.8%). Based on the results of the Spearman Rho test analysis, it was found that there was a relationship between family support and independence of the elderly in daily activities with a p value (0.000) < (0.05), the correlation coeficient value of 0.839 with a very strong relationship shown by it means that the better the family support, the more independence of the elderly in daily activities. With good family support, the elderly feel cared for and appreciated so that they become a separate strength for the elderly both psychologically and physically to carry out daily activities independently.
