    Abstract
Anxiety that occurs in the patient's family is usually caused by the lack of information conveyed by nurses through communication, especially about the conditions and processes of patient care in the room, the strict rules for visiting the hospital which make the family feel unable to accompany the patient to the maximum, causing anxiety in the family. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between nurses' therapeutic communication with the level of anxiety of the patient's family who were attached to a mechanical ventilator in respiratory failure patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The design of this study used a correlation analytic research design. The population is the family of patients who are attached to a mechanical ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Anwar Medika Hospital as many as 24 respondents with Consecutive sampling technique. The instrument used to measure therapeutic communication was Rizky's questionnaire and the one used to measure anxiety level was the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) questionnaire. Data analysis using editing, coding, tabulating and Spearman rho test. Based on the results of the Spearman rho test, it shows value (0.000) < (0.05) with a strong correlation level indicated by the correlation coefficient value of 0.567. This means that there is a relationship between nurse therapeutic communication with the level of anxiety of the patient's family who is attached to a mechanical ventilator in respiratory failure patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
