Abstract
Cognitive function in the elderly is susceptible to decline with increasing age, and one contributing factor is sleep quality. Decreased sleep quality can impact memory, attention, and thinking ability, ultimately affecting the quality of life of older adults. This study aims to determine the relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function in the elderly at UPT Puskesmas Kedundung. The study employed a quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 117 elderly individuals were selected as samples using total sampling technique. The instruments used were the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to measure sleep quality and the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) to assess cognitive function. Data analysis was performed using Somers'd and Spearman Rho tests. The results showed that most respondents had poor sleep quality and experienced cognitive function impairment. The Spearman Rho test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function in the elderly. There is a meaningful relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function in older adults. Poor sleep quality contributes to decreased cognitive function. This finding highlights the importance of nursing interventions to improve sleep quality in order to maintain cognitive function in the elderly.
