Every woman experienced varying physical and emotional changes during the premenstrual phase. Most experienced mild and tolerable symptoms that appeared a few days before menstruation, such as bloating, moodiness, and breast tenderness, which were referred to as premenstrual syndrome (PMS). The purpose of this study was to describe the severity of PMS among female adolescents at SMP Negeri 2 Nguling Pasuruan. This study employed a descriptive design. The study population consisted of all eighth-grade female students at SMP Negeri 2 Nguling Pasuruan, totaling 121 students. Purposive sampling was used, resulting in 60 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. The research variable was PMS severity. The instrument used was the Short Premenstrual Syndrome Assessment Form (SPAF). Data were analyzed using frequency distribution and percentages. The results showed that 50 respondents (83.3%) experienced mild PMS severity, while 10 respondents (16.7%) experienced severe PMS severity. Data analysis indicated that almost all respondents experienced mild PMS severity, with predominant symptoms including swelling in certain body parts, water retention, and temporary weight gain. PMS occurred due to a complex interaction between the neuroendocrine system, neurotransmitters, the immune system, and psychosocial factors. PMS could be influenced by age, age at menarche, high-sugar diet, junk food and caffeine consumption, lack of exercise, and body mass index (BMI).en_US
