HUBUNGAN TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN DENGAN PERILAKU MASYARAKAT DALAM MEMBERIKAN PERTOLONGAN PERTAMA PADA KORBAN KECELAKAAN LALU LINTAS
Abstract
The high mortality rate in traffic accident victims could be caused by the provision of
inappropriate first aid. Most ordinary people did not understand how to provide first aid because
of a lack of knowledge about handling first aid for victims who experience emergency conditions.
The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between the level of knowledge and the
behavior of the community in providing first aid to victims of traffic accidents. This research
design used correlation analytic with cross sectional approach. The population in this study was
all community members aged 17-45 years in RT 002 RW 004 Siwalima Village, Pulau-pulau Aru
Subdistrict Aru, Kepulauan Aru Regency, as many as 50 people. The sampling technique of this
research was purposive sampling. The sample in this study was as many as 20 people. The research
instrument used questionnaire. Data analysis used Spearman Rho test. The results showed that
almost half of the respondents had sufficient knowledge, as many as 9 respondents (45%), and
most of them had positive behavior, as many as 11 respondents (55%). The results of the Spearman
Rho test analysis showed that p-value = 0.000 with = 0.05 and the correlation coefficient value of
0.863 means that there was a strong correlation between knowledge and community behavior in
providing first aid to traffic accident victims in RT 002 RW 004 Siwalima Village, Pulau-pulau
Aru Subdistrict Aru, Kepulauan Aru Regency, where the higher the knowledge, the more positive
the behavior of the community. This is because knowledge is the basis for a person to act so that
the action is long lasting. Respondents who knew how to provide first aid to victims of traffic
accidents woull tend to be able to provide first aid to victims of traffic accidents.
