    Abstract
Phlebitis was the inflammation of a vein caused by chemical, mechanical, or bacterial irritants. Symptoms of phlebitis included pain, redness of the skin, warmth, swelling and tenderness at the affected site or along the inflamed vein. Infections that caused phlebitis might also lead to the drainage of pus from the involved area. The aim of the research was to acknowledge the difference between applying transparent dressings and plasters when setting up an intravenous infusion to some patients in the hospital room of Blooto Community Health Centre, Mojokerto. The design of the research was chi square and involved the observational method. There were 40 inpatients at Blooto hospital room who met the exclusion and inclusion criteria in March 2020 as the population. The data were collected through observation and Man Whitney U-test was used for the statistical test with the help of SPSS 16.0. And the results showed that there were 4 respondents (20%), who applied transparent dressings, and 15 respondents (75%), who applied plasters, developed phlebitis. So based on the statistical test of analysis data results, p value = 0.001. It meant p value < a (0.05). The results of the study indicated that respondents who applied plasters experienced more phlebitis than the ones who applied transparent dressings. Therefore it was necessary to change the plaster technique in intravenous infusion at the hospital room to reduce the incidence of phlebitis.
