dc.description.abstract | Elderly in indonesia is increasing, so the elderly with a variety of changes
both biologically, socially, culturally, economically, health, and psychologically
into a group that ranges from various mental and behavioral problems, namely
depression. Social support can influence the incidence of depression in the
elderly. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between
social support and depression in the elderly in Songo Village, Songowareng
Village, Bluluk District, Lamongan Regency. Desaint analytic correlation
research with cross sectional approach. The population of all elderly in Songo
Hamlet Songowareng Village, Bluluk Subdistrict, Lamongan Regency was 40
elderly people aged 60-74 and then a sample of 36 people was obtained by simple
random sampling. The independent variable is social support and the dependent
variable is depression in the elderly, the data is taken using a questionnaire, after
the data is collected then the data is processed and then continued with the
statistical test of Sperman’s Rho Test with SPSS version 17.0. The results
obtained p = 0.830 > (0.05) so that H0 is accepted, which means there is no
significant relationship between social support and depression in the elderly in
Songo Village, Songowareng Village, Bluluk District, Lamongan Regency. The
results of this study indicate that depression in the elderly is not influenced by
social support alone, there are many factors that affect depression in the elderly,
including staying at home alone because they do not have offspring, prolonged
sadness, poverty, frequent solitude and rarely socializing with the surrounding
