dc.description.abstract ABSTRACT COMMUNITY KNOWLEDGE REGARDING DIABETES MELLITUS PREVENTION IN TENGAHAN HAMLET, KALIMATI VILLAGE, TARIK SUB-DISTRICT Nur Imas Aulia Introduction: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) can be prevented through healthy lifestyle practices, but prevention requires understanding of risk factors. This study aimed to describe community knowledge regarding DM prevention in Tengahan Hamlet, Kalimati Village, Tarik Sub-district. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive design. The sample included 90 respondents selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected in September 2026 using a questionnaire containing 20 questions about DM prevention. Correct answers scored 1 and incorrect answers 0. Data were analyzed descriptively using frequency distributions, percentages, and cross-tabulation. Actual lifestyle behavior was not measured directly. Results: Of the 90 respondents, 46 (51.1%) had moderate knowledge, 23 (25.6%) had poor knowledge, and 21 (23.3%) had good knowledge. Cross-tabulation showed variation in knowledge levels by education. Among 21 respondents with primary school education, 16 had poor knowledge and five had moderate knowledge. All seven respondents with college education had good knowledge. Discussion: Knowledge can shape attitudes and decisions about healthy lifestyles. Understanding sugar restriction, balanced nutrition, physical activity, weight management, and blood glucose checks can help residents identify preventive actions. However, knowledge does not automatically change behavior. Education may also help address practical barriers. Application also depends on habits, family support, environment, information access, and health services. Since this study measured knowledge only, its direct effect on healthy lifestyle behavior cannot be concluded. Conclusion: Community knowledge was most commonly at a moderate level. Ongoing health education should be strengthened, particularly for residents with poor knowledge, to improve understanding of DM prevention locally. en_US
